Detroit Pistons: Draft Picks – #1, #37, #42, #52
With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons select… We think it will be Cade Cunningham, but could the Pistons shock the world and go in a different direction? After all, they did just draft Killian Hayes to be their “point guard of the future” last year.
Right now, Cade Cunningham is expected to be drafted first overall by Detroit and he has claimed that the only team he will be visiting during the pre-draft process will be the Pistons. At this point, it seems like it is a “done-deal” for Cunningham to be the first guy drafted on July 29, but Jalen Green is a guy the Pistons really like.
Green is one of the most exciting prospects on the board at the top of the draft this season and possesses a high-level of athleticism, which is why he has “All-Star” written all over him. The Pistons could definitely utilize Jalen Green, especially since they need an athletic, versatile player at the shooting guard position.
The #1 overall pick is what everybody will be talking about in regards to the Pistons, but they also have three second-round picks that could be packaged together in a draft night trade. Who knows what kind of value Detroit can find in the second-round, but they could take this opportunity to potentially add some talent next to their incoming top pick and Jerami Grant.

They may not have much cap space, but Cory Joseph and Mason Plumlee are two guys that they could potentially package together with some of these second-round picks to bring in a high-valued player like Marvin Bagley III or even someone like Kyle Kuzma possibly.
The Pistons are in a position right now where they are not going to turn themselves into a contender next season, but it is vital that they show improvements during the 2021-22 season. With Grant, Bey, Stewart and Hayes all as their core right now, Detroit is trending in the right direction, but they are still missing starpower offensively.

Adding Cade Cunningham will definitely help the Pistons heading into the 2021-22 season, but they still need another key talent to turn themselves into a force. Maybe even a player like Harrison Barnes could prove useful for the Pistons, but he does carry a high price tag and plays the same type of role as Jerami Grant.
It should be interesting to see what the Detroit Pistons have planned, especially on draft night, but at this point, it is safe to say that Cade Cunningham will be the top pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and will be the guy the Pistons look to build with for many years to come.
