Does this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?
If the Trail Blazers are to trade away Damian Lillard, they are going to want a ton of assets in return. A trade proposal of Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and some draft picks will be laughed at by the Blazers’ front-office and immediately rejected by them.
Not to mention, why would the Blazers want to trade Damian Lillard to the Los Angeles Lakers, who are one of their rival teams in the Western Conference? Not only would they have to play him multiple times during the regular season, but then they would have to run into him over the next decade at times in the postseason!
Portland gets absolutely nothing out of this trade player-wise and overall, trading Lillard to Los Angeles lessens the Trail Blazers chances of being something special without him! If anything, they are going to look to trade him to an Eastern Conference team so he is out of their way in the Western Conference.
Kylz Kuzma is a solid young talent, but he is nothing more than a role player with the upside of being in the starting rotation for another team. The same goes for Montrezl Harrell, who is not a franchise-altering big man. Portland does get a ton of draft assets from this trade, but other than the Lakers’ first-round pick this year, the rest of the draft picks do not come until 2025 at the earliest!

The Portland Trail Blazers could look to trade Damian Lillard in the offseason, but this trade proposal and trading him to the Lakers in general makes no sense whatsoever. They can get so much more value for him somewhere else, which is why the Lakers’ chances of getting Damian Lillard from Portland are very slim.
