1. Rose Would Be An Upgrade At Point Guard
Finally, and most importantly for the Lakers, they need to upgrade the point guard position. No one should bad mouth Dennis Schroder, because he did make a positive impact for the Lakers. But, he was not the guy that L.A. needed at point guard.
Derrick Rose, on the other hand, would be a massive upgrade over what Schroder brought to the Lakers.
Purely on the offensive end of the court, Rose is a better fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Rose has not been a lethal three-point shooter throughout the majority of his career, but he shot 38.8 percent from three-point range in 2020-21 as compared to the 33.5 percent that Schroder shot. His ability to get to the rim and create his own shot is much better than Schroder’s as well.
Schroder is also a much more ball-dominant guard than Rose has been over the last couple of years. Rose is more than capable with the ball in his hands, but he doesn’t need it. That is the kind of point guard the Lakers need to place alongside James and Davis.
Finally, his experience would be a major plus for the Lakers. Rose is a championship caliber player and he plays like it. That’s not to say that Schroder isn’t, but Rose understands situations and he knows how to play and when to play a certain style of basketball.
Rose is the kind of player that can seriously impact a team’s chances of competing. That was shown clearly with the Knicks. If the Lakers bring him in, they would improve dramatically at the point guard position.
