G Quentin Grimes – Houston

Another guy who played really well in the scrimmage aspect of the NBA Draft Combine and improved his draft stock significantly was Quetin Grimes from the University of Houston. Entering college in 2018, Grimes was listed as the second-best guard in the country and the 8th best college recruit in the 2018 recruiting class by ESPN

He committed to play at Kansas and spent just one season there before transferring. Grimes just did not look like the same player at Kansas that he did in high school, which is why he transferred to Houston to play for Kelvin Sampson. This was the best decision he ever made with his playing career because Quetin Grimes quickly became one of the leaders of this program and this past year, helped lead them to their first Final Four appearance since 1984.

A once lottery-projected pick in the NBA Draft, Grimes now found himself as a sleeper player entering the NBA Draft Combine that was classified as a mid second-round type of prospect. This has all changed though and he may have worked his way back into first-round consideration after his performances in the scrimmages.

Quentin Grimes played in two scrimmages at the combine, putting up a total of 39 points on 15-25 shooting, 9-16 from deep, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Normally known as an athletic playmaker, Grimes showed everybody that he can be a real threat to score the ball not just at the basket, but from distance as well.

Standing 6’5.25” with shoes and with a 6’8” wingspan, Quentin Grimes is a versatile guard that has worked his way back into first-round consideration given how well he performed at the NBA Draft Combine. Out of all guards at the combine, Grimes ranked tied for 6th in the three quarter court sprint and 5th in the max vertical leap with a leap of 38.5 inches.

He may not be the Top-10 prospect like he once was coming out of high school, but Grimes has put the league on notice with his impressive showing in the games at the combine. His draft stock is very high right now and as he continues to go through the pre-draft process, he could lock himself up as a late first-round guard.
