The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to be very aggressive this offseason after another disappointing finish to the 2020-21 NBA season. Many believe that they could look to move on from Ben Simmons, although that is not a guarantee yet. One player that the 76ers are expected to target if he becomes available for trade is Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard.
Lillard has reportedly been considering requesting a trade from the Trail Blazers. He is not pleased with how the team’s search for a new coach went, even though it ended with Chauncey Billups being brought in to replace Terry Stotts. In addition to that, Lillard wants to compete for a championship and Portland has been unable to make that happen.
During the 2020-21 NBA season, Lillard ended up averaging 28.8 points per game to go along with 7.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds. He shot 45.1 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 39.1 percent of his three-point attempts. Those numbers once again placed Lillard among the league’s elite superstars.
Behind Lillard’s leadership, the Trail Blazers finished the season with a 42-30 record and ended up as the Western Conference’s No. 6 seed. They finished up the year with a first-round playoff series loss against the Denver Nuggets in six games, although many believe that they should have won the series.
All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a look at how the 76ers could come in and pull off a blockbuster trade with the Trail Blazers to acquire Damian Lillard.
