The Oklahoma City Thunder just made a deal for Kemba Walker with the Boston Celtics but that does not mean that he is there to stay. This could have been a move made by the Thunder to flip him for another return. This NBA trade scenario would send him to the New Orleans Pelicans.

New Orleans has some decisions to make in the offseason. They have to figure out how to put the right supporting cast around the likes of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. This could begin by adding an elite point guard.

The Pelicans have the star power and now it is about putting the right guys around them so they can attempt to compete for the postseason in the Western Conference. If Kemba Walker is part of the plan, the Thunder could trade him immediately.

It seems as though Oklahoma City added Walker to move him and put themselves in a better position after landing the No. 16 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. If this is the plan, it was smart and just another aspect showing that Sam Presti has an overall idea for the Thunder moving forward.

A team like the Pelicans who need a more dynamic pull-up shooting threat on the perimeter could be an ideal landing spot. New Orleans could face real pressure to make a splash to help Zion Williamson, but do need to move on from some unfavorable contracts in the process.

The Pelicans are looking to compete while the Thunder want to continue a long rebuilding process. Let’s take a look at what a potential deal might look like moving forward.
