Acquiring veteran point guards has always been a popular move for teams vying for a title. Being able to have an experienced floor general that can manage a game on and off of the floor is invaluable for teams across the league.

For instance, the Los Angeles Clippers traded for Rajon Rondo this season, who is giving them productive minutes in the playoffs after helping the Los Angeles Lakers win a championship last season.

There are quite a few teams that could be viewed in the NBA as a possible trade source due to them not being anywhere close to contention. The Houston Rockets could definitely be lumped in with that group of teams, with D.J. Augustin being a name to keep an eye on this summer.

Augustin has bounced around teams throughout his entire career, playing for 10 teams since he entered the NBA in 2008. The Texas product is an efficient three-point shooter, making 38 percent or more of his outside shots in three out of the past four seasons.

He’s also averaged 9.7 points and four assists per game in his career, making him a perfect role player for a team looking to compete for the championship.

What makes Augustin very enticing is that he’s among the veteran point guards in the league that likely wouldn’t cost much via trade.
