Give Joel Embiid the supermax extension

Whenever a team finds a cornerstone superstar player, they need to do everything in their power to keep him with the organization. Even with another heartbreaking end to the season, the Philadelphia 76ers need to ensure that Embiid doesn’t go anywhere anytime soon.

While Embiid’s current contract isn’t expired, the talented big man is eligible to receive the supermax extension this offseason. Due to making the All-NBA 2nd team, Embiid is eligible for an extension that is in the ballpark of $190.6 million over four years.

Embiid has two years remaining on his current deal, but an extension would keep him with the franchise through the 2026-27 season. With Embiid preparing to enter his prime, the 76ers need to everything they can to make sure Embiid is content with the team’s situation.

In his fifth played season, Embiid was able to record a career-high 28.5 points per game, along with 10.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game in 2020-21. The four-time All-Star also set career-high marks in field-goal percentage (51.3 percent) and three-point percentage (37.7 percent).
