There isn’t a team in the NBA that has more draft capital than the OKC Thunder. Sam Presti has continually stocked up on draft picks in recent years, making trades that could allow the franchise to make moves in the future to build a contending roster.
Altogether, through the 2027 season, Oklahoma City possesses a whopping 38 draft picks, with 18 of them coming in the first round. Presti has shown no signs of wanting to expedite the vision he’s laid out over the years when he first began stockpiling draft picks.
Finding young cornerstone players is what the organization hopes to achieve in the next few years, and then surrounding those players with proven stars is what the ultimate goal seems to be. With the Western Conference being as competitive as it is now, there’s no need for Presti to go all-in on putting together a winning roster this offseason.
But at the least, Presti understands that gradually adding players that could be part of the long-term plan could help the franchise return to contention sooner rather than later.

Given the team’s 38 draft picks in the next seven years, and a few young players, Presti could begin bringing in notable names to improve the roster around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Upon acquiring Kemba Walker recently, Presti seems to believe he could be an ideal fit with Gilgeous-Alexander.
With the team possibly being content with Walker starting at point guard, here are a few trades the Thunder should consider making this summer.
