Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?
The process is over. The duo of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have failed once again at getting the Philadelphia 76ers to the Eastern Conference Finals — and this was the best chance the team has had in a long time.
There is no surviving this postseason for Simmons and he has to be moved. Failing to reach the Eastern Conference Finals after being the No. 1 overall seed in the conference is simply unacceptable. This is a 76ers team that has taken major swings via trade, too, so it’s not like they haven’t made a push before.
Making a move would benefit the 76ers without even knowing what the return is. At this point, Simmons is a headache. The team will have to constantly deal with his shooting woes and when he disappears at the end of games. At the same time, a 6-foot-10 point guard might be of interest to other teams.
Getting options like Aaron Gordon and Monte Morris would make an immediate impact. Morris can score while Gordon is a leader and elite defender. The 76ers could finally focus on building around Embiid and only him.

Philadelphia is going to be back near the top of the Eastern Conference with the likes of the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks next season. They need a situation that does not have drama and is a bit deeper than this year.
