Moving on from Ben Simmons would be a sign that Daryl Morey and the 76ers are continuing the trend of adding more shooting around Embiid. Last offseason, Philadelphia added Danny Green, Seth Curry, and Tyrese Maxey to the roster in hopes to improve in the shooting department.

It worked well during the regular season to secure the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, but once Green went down with an injury in the postseason, the 76ers were desperate for contributions beyond the arc.

With Philadelphia seeking a guard that can shoot, they could pursue D’Angelo Russell on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota would likely welcome the trade as Karl-Anthony Towns is known to be close friends with Simmons (as he’s also friends with Russell).

D’Angelo Russell is a confident offensive player that isn’t afraid to take any shot on the floor, which can lead to poor decisions at time. But having a coach like Rivers could rein in Russell, and it would give the 76ers a player that can handle the ball, along with space the floor.

Russell missed 30 games during the 2020-21 season, but he will be one-hundred percent healthy for next season. We’ve seen Russell step up and take a prominent role on winning teams when he was with the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors.

Besides getting Russell, the 76ers could also get other pieces from the Timberwolves, which could include future draft picks. Russell is one of the most realistic options that Philadelphia could hope for in a trade involving Simmons.
