Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have not had the success they are used to in recent years. In fact, they are trying to retool the roster by getting rid of veteran players. They agreed to a buyout with LaMarcus Aldridge during the regular season. DeMar DeRozan has been in NBA trade rumors but was able to finish his contract with the Spurs. As we approach the offseason, the Spurs could be interested in a star.

Simmons would give the Spurs a proven commodity at the top of the offense. He is a special case at the position because of his size and inability to shoot the ball. If there is one coach that might be able to figure out the best course of action with Simmons, it is Gregg Popovich.

With Kawhi Leonard being long gone from the franchise and DeMar DeRozan entering NBA free agency, Ben Simmons would give the franchise that star name that they could be looking for.

Simmons and the Spurs seems like an interesting fit but it might be just crazy enough to work. One thing that is certain is that it would be entertaining to see how Popovich would use Simmons within the offense. If the Spurs feel they can build around Simmons, it’s absolutely worth the consideration.
