Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Darius Bazley, 2021 second-round pick
Oklahoma City Thunder Receive: C/F Kristaps Porzingis
The Dallas Mavericks would be moving on from Kristaps Porzingis after two seasons of action. He is set to earn $101.5 million more in salary until his contract expires three seasons from now. He is set to earn $31.6 million during the 2021-22 NBA campaign, in particular. That’s a lot of money…
By moving Porzingis to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a return that features only the contract of Darius Bazley, who is set to earn $2.5 million next season, the Mavericks would clear $29.1 million in salary cap spending to use this offseason.

The Thunder are set to have roughly $51.4 million in salary cap room this offseason. Even after taking on Porzingis’ contract, Oklahoma City would retain $22.5 million in spending power, if they chose to use.
When factoring in how the Mavericks need to re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr. and soon Jalen Brunson while still adding talent, managing to clear that level of salary cap spending would help. It’s just a matter of whether or not this would be the right return in order to do so.
Let’s take a look at whether this NBA trade scenario centered around Kristaps Porzingis would make sense for the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder.
