Sacramento Kings Receive: C/F Kristaps Porzingis
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Buddy Hield, C/F Marvin Bagley III
In this particular scenario, the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings would be trying their luck by giving their side kick who is signed to a big deal a fresh start elsewhere. Kristaps Porzingis and Buddy Hield each have three-years remaining on their contracts but Porzingis is set to earn $31.6 million in 2021-22 while Hield will land $22.2 million.

Marvin Bagley III has underachieved since being selected ahead of Luka Doncic in the 2018 NBA Draft. He doesn’t appear to be much of a fit for the Kings. His inclusion in this deal would mostly be for the $11.3 million expiring deal he will be on in 2021-22 to help close the gap in salary difference between Porzingis and Hield.
The Mavericks will have salary cap space to use this offseason and this particular trade scenario would only result in a -$1.9 million impact on their spending room. That’s a suitable situation since Bagley III isn’t on a long-term and Hield would have an easier time meeting his value with the Mavericks than Porzingis did and is set to make quite a big less.
This trade gives both sides exactly what they’re looking for in terms of talent, and it’s a very fair deal between two competitive rosters. Let’s take a look at how this trade directly impacts each team directly.
