If the Nets are going to target big men in free agency, there might not be a better target for them than JaVale McGee. McGee brings a lot to the table that the Nets could use.

First and foremost, JaVale McGee shouldn’t break the bank for the Nets. It would not be surprising if he signed for the veteran’s minimum or a small portion of a mid-level exception. His skill set is also what the team needs.

JaVale McGee doesn’t need the ball in his hands to make an impact, which is imperative on a roster like this one. He can still create some havoc on lobs with his athleticism, but where he earns his keep is on defense. McGee is still one of the better rim protectors in the NBA and has championship experience from his time with the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.

If the Nets were able to land him in free agency, their center position would be set with DeAndre Jordan and Nicolas Claxton also on the roster.
