Does this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?

At this point, there is no coming back for Kevin Knox II. He will forever be labeled a bust and will be part of two years where the New York Knicks failed completely in the NBA Draft, along with Frank Ntilikina. This is not only a trade that would benefit the Knicks but also Knox as he looks to start over. For the Knicks, it is about getting rid of a failed draft pick.

Knox has averaged 8.5 points per game in 20.8 minutes of action per night in three seasons for the Knicks. This is not what was expected when he was selected with a top-10 pick, ahead of Donovan Mitchell. The return would not be big but Knox alone isn’t going to get one. If he was used in a package, Knox could be more valuable for a bigger player.

In this deal, the Knicks are sending Knox away by himself and cannot expect much back. Burke and a second-rounder seems about right and they are assets that could be used in another deal. Burke is familiar with New York and was originally sent to Dallas in the Kristaps Porzingis trade.

The Knicks are a team that needs help at the point guard position. Burke would not be the starting-caliber player that they need but he could always be used as a depth option moving forward. He would at least be more of a scoring threat to turn to than Elfrid Payton when needed.
