Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
The Dallas Mavericks approached the NBA trade deadline with goals of acquiring some more prowess from the three-point line. This happened when they made a deal for J.J. Redick and Nicolo Melli from the New Orleans Pelicans. In the offseason, they will have some decisions to make regarding Redick and this could lead to the acquisition of some other names.

Knox could be one of those cheap options to take a flier on. At this time, the confidence level of Knox has to be shot. He has been moved to the bench for the Knicks and does not play a huge role. Enter Dallas as a contender for the Kentucky product. If there is one player that could help Knox learn the ropes, it is Doncic.
As a bench option, Kevin Knox II would not have the pressure of New York on him anymore. If Burke and a second-round pick is the price, this is worth it for Dallas.
These two teams are familiar with one another. Kristaps Porzingis was sent from New York to Dallas in a blockbuster deal. This is another chance for the two sides to get together for a potential trade. In speaking of Porzingis, the Mavericks need more wings to be able to go small.
