The one perfect trade target for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason

Ever since the Los Angeles Lakers signed LeBron James ahead of the 2018-2019 season, they have evolved into a prime landing spot for players that want to pursue an NBA championship.

The addition of Anthony Davis prior to the 2019-20 season was evidence of that as the Lakers hoisted the Larry O’Brien trophy in James and Davis’ first year together. In their second season together, the result has yet to be discovered as Los Angeles battles it out with the Phoenix Suns.

Whatever team LeBron James is playing for, they tend to be more aggressive in NBA free agency and on the trade market. It shouldn’t be any different for the team in purple and gold this offseason, regardless of how their season concludes. When it comes to possible trades for Los Angeles, finding players who fit alongside the duo of LeBron and Davis is of the utmost priority.

With LeBron James in the latter part of his career — despite his ongoing dominance at 36 years old — the Lakers understand their window to win championships is right now. Provided that, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them be ultra-aggressive on the trade market once the upcoming offseason begins.

Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka aren’t strangers to making roster moves, and there will be a few names to watch as possible trade targets for Los Angeles. Given the current makeup of the roster, there is one name that makes more sense than others, and I’ll highlight what it could take to pry him away from his current team.
