Wes Unseld Jr.

One name that continually gets thrown around in coaching searches is Wes Unseld Jr. His father was a legendary basketball player for the then Washington Bullets. After his playing career in Washington, Wes’s father took up coaching, posting a 202-345 record in the regular season.

Despite not playing in the NBA like his father, Unseld is a wise assistant coach that has finally found a long-term home on the Denver Nuggets. Unseld was given the responsibility of fixing the defense in Denver, where he helped them go from the 28th ranked defense in 2017-2018, to the 10th ranked defense in 2018-2019.

Even though he’s had multiple coaches advocate for him, Unseld has been unable to secure a head coaching job. Maybe with Stevens and the Celtics seeking a fresh face to lead the team, Unseld will finally get a shot at becoming a head coach like his father.

If the Celtics are open to bringing in a first-year NBA head coach, this would be the best possible option for them.
