After yet another season in which they are not making the playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers are heading back to the drawing boards during the NBA offseason to try and figure out how to make this franchise sustainable without LeBron James.

The last time Cleveland was in the playoffs without LeBron James leading them there was in 1998 when Shawn Kemp was their leading scorer. With a bunch of young talents on their roster and a handful of draft picks over the next few years, the Cavaliers definitely have a chance to build themselves back into a playoff threat, but they have a long ways to go.

This offseason is going to be full of big decisions for the Cavs to make, starting with the pending free agency of center Jarrett Allen. Cleveland is going to bring the big man back, but the question is how much are they willing to pay him?

Right now, the biggest problem with Cleveland’s roster is the fact that Kevin Love is eating up $31.3M next season and then $28.9M during the 2022-23 season. As a result, bringing back Jarrett Allen on a $100M contract could be tough, but giving Collin Sexton a long-term extension could be very tough as well.

In his end of season press conference, Cavs GM Koby Altman said that he wants to keep Garland and Sexton together long-term in the Cavs’ backcourt, but money could stand in the way of this. Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer talked about potential moves moving forward for the Cavaliers and mentioned that the Cavaliers could be gearing up to move Collin Sexton in a trade. This will be something to watch in NBA trade rumors this offseason, to say the least.

If Sexton does become available in trade talks this offseason in the final year of his contract, there are definitely going to be plenty of teams interested in trading for the young guard and the Chicago Bulls could be one of those teams. As a result, let’s see what the Bulls would have to potentially give up to acquire Collin Sexton from the Cavaliers this offseason.
