Golden State Warriors would ‘listen to offers’ for James Wiseman trade

The Golden State Warriors came just one win short of making the NBA Playoffs this season despite the fact that Klay Thompson was forced to miss the entire season once again due to injury. Stephen Curry put up a huge season and his supporting cast of Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, and others stepped up. Speaking of Wiseman, there is a chance that he could be on the move this offseason.

According to a report from Mike Scotto of HoopsHype, the Warriors would “listen to offers” for their young center if the right deal comes around. That “right deal” would have to include an All-Star caliber player.

A league source told HoopsHype that while Golden State is not looking to trade James Wiseman, they would listen if an All-Star player was on the table and one becomes available this summer in potential trade talks.

Wiseman will certainly be a player that other teams around the NBA would love to acquire. He is a young big man capable of scoring the ball and he has good defensive ability as well. Those qualities are very important, especially with the kind of athleticism that he can bring to the floor.

In his rookie season with the Warriors, Wiseman ended up averaging 11.5 points per game to go along with 5.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 21.4 minutes per game. He shot 51.9 percent from the floor and also knocked down 31.6 percent of his three-point attempts.

Granted, Wiseman has a long ways to go on both ends of the court. He needs to work on his range and consistency offensively and work on becoming a better rim protector and staying out of foul trouble defensively. But, the skills and talent are there for him to become a very special player in the future.

At just 20 years of age, James Wiseman could absolutely be the focal point of a trade package for an All-Star. He has the potential to become an All-Star himself in the future.

This coming offseason is shaping up to be a very busy one. Plenty of teams have talent that they want to sell and there are a lot of teams who are going to be buying that talent. Wiseman won’t be moved just to make a trade, but the Warriors are looking to go all-in with Curry and Thompson one last time.

Expect to hear Wiseman’s name mentioned in quite a few trade rumors this offseason. He may not end up getting dealt, but there is a very real possibility that he might change teams.
