Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
At this point, if the Celtics are able to upgrade the talent in their frontcourt at the expense of guys not named Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart or Kemba Walker, the trade makes sense, regardless of who they would be giving up. This will undoubtedly be something to monitor in NBA trade rumors.
Adding Jonas Valanciunas would be a great move for the Celtics because they really struggled rebounding this year, specifically on the defensive-end of the court. Valanciunas ranked third in the league this year in defensive rebounds per game and has been a force in the paint, which is why Boston needs a player like him.

Tristan Thompson and Robert Williams have been a solid “one-two punch” at the center position and Williams is starting to emerge as a starting center caliber player, but you know what you are getting with Valanciunas if you are the Celtics, which is a lot more than you know about what to expect from Robert Williams moving forward.
Aaron Nesmith is a young talent they are high on and the Celtics could definitely add more talent to their roster with the 16th pick in this year’s draft, but at the end of the day, this is a team that is a few pieces away from contending for championship and they do not necessarily need to be building a team through the draft right now.
Using their limited cap space and spending money to build a contender is how it is done nowadays in the NBA, which is why the Celtics need to hop on the trend and buy their way back to the NBA Finals.
