For the first time ever in their 54 year history as an NBA/ABA franchise, the San Antonio Spurs will miss the playoffs for back-to-back years after losing to the Memphis Grizzlies 100-96 Wednesday night. Now, San Antonio will hit the reset button and enter what could be a franchise-altering offseason with key guys like DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay becoming unrestricted free agents.

For the Grizzlies, they are one win away from making it back to the playoffs for the first-time since 2017 and while they may not be the most “flashy” team in the league in terms of star-power, they are a great, young team that is on the rise in the Western Conference.

Led by second-year guard Ja Morant and third-year big man Jaren Jackson Jr, the Grizzlies have a great blend of young and experienced talents on their roster and they really do have one of the strong starting rotations in the entire league.

Morant and Jackson Jr. played really well against the Spurs in the first of the two Western Conference play-in games, but Jonas Valanciunas and Dillon Brooks were the two x-factors in the win for Memphis.

Now, the Grizzlies will travel to San Francisco to take on the Golden State Warriors in a one game, winner takes the 8-seed matchup. How will Wednesday night’s game against San Antonio impact Memphis moving forward though?

Let’s take a look at the three biggest takeaways from the Spurs-Grizzlies play-in game and how both teams fare moving forward.
