Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
The only way this trade makes sense for the Dallas Mavericks is if they are actively trying to shop Kristaps Porzingis in the offseason. Not many teams will be interested in him seeing as he has been labeled as “injury prone” and is not the type of player that can take over a game, but if the Warriors are interested, this is probably the best deal they could potentially strike.
Andrew Wiggins is still only 26-years-old and is still growing as a player and the same can be said about Eric Paschall, even though he has not played much this year due to numerous injuries. Getting a future first-round pick is also valuable for the Mavericks and gives them a chance to continue adding young talents around Luka Doncic in the future.

Right now, the Mavericks have two All-Star-level talents with Luka and Kristaps, but they are missing that third, high-level talent to take them to the next level. Giving up on Porzingis while he still has three years left on his deal may be too soon.
He has had his injury concerns over the years and may not be anything more than a high-level talent in the frontcourt, but not many teams can say that they have a 7-footer who is more than capable of grabbing rebounds, blocking shots and knocking down three-pointers with consistency.
Porzingis is a unique player and if the Mavericks can land a third high-tier player, then they could easily ascend to being a top-tier team in the Western Conference. Trading Porzingis in the offseason is definitely still a possibility, but the Mavs should try to build with him instead of without him.
