Both Cade Cunningham and Luka Doncic control the pace of a game
One of the biggest things that made Luka Doncic such an impressive player from the first moment he stepped foot on the court in the NBA is the fact that he does not let the pace of the game come to him, he dictates the pace of the game.
As a rookie, Luka Doncic was such an impactful and dominant player because he controlled the flow of the game and everything basically went through him on the offensive-end of the court. Much can be said about Cade Cunningham and his play style at Oklahoma State.
There was no disputing that Cunningham was the best player on the court at Oklahoma State, which is why he always had the ball in his hands, but he rarely rushed his decisions and always took time to figure out what he was going to do.
Most highly-skilled prospects in college tend to make “All-Star-level” plays to put on their highlight reel, and while Cunningham has made these types of plays, most of the time, he is controlling what happens on the court.

Whether it is attacking, stepping back for a three-pointer or being patient and breaking down his opponent’s defense, Cade Cunningham has a very unique tendency to control the pace of the game, something many NBA Draft prospects do not have.
Luka Doncic has been notorious early on in his career for not forcing the action and picking the right times to change the tempo of the game and with Cunningham having this ability at just 19-years-old, he is set up to have just as much success as Luka had when he entered the league in 2018.
