This Magic-Wizards offseason trade is focused on Russell Westbrook

While the NBA trade deadline has since expired and rosters are seemingly set for the remainder of the 2021 season, you better believe this upcoming offseason will be just as entertaining as the NBA trade deadline was. Two teams who could be interested in making a trade together could be the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards.

The Orlando Magic are a middle of the pack team in terms of talent, but they will likely be more on the rebuilding side of things this offseason. The Magic aren’t going to pursue a deep rebuild, but likely a regime change of sorts as they hope to bring in some refreshing talent to enhance their roster.

The Washington Wizards, on the flip side, are likely going to pursue a full team rebuild, which is much needed for the Wizards franchise. The Wizards are currently in a favorable position in the NBA Draft Lottery, but they could also be in position to pursue some offseason trades like this one. They will be a team to watch in NBA trade rumors.

Westbrook was dealt to the Wizards this season as part of the John Wall trade, but it may be a short stop for the decorated point guard. Many NBA experts have expressed the sentiment that Westbrook is best suited playing as the lone star on a team because of how poor of an off-the-ball threat he is. Washington will need to move on.

The Magic would not be doing a deal of this kind because they are attempting to win games. Westbrook isn’t going to help a team do that in 2021-22 at this point. He can fill up the box score, but his poor shooting and high turnover count paired with his detached defensive focus is a recipe to lose games. Orlando would be able to get that done.

A trade between these two teams could make a lot of sense. Let’s take a look at what it may take to get a deal done.
