Why This Trade Would Make Sense For The Cleveland Cavaliers

This is a good trade for the Cleveland Cavaliers because they are able to get a haul of talent for their aging veteran on an expiring contract. Kevin Love has only mustered up eight games played for the Cavaliers this season and dealing him away while he still has value makes too much sense.

While a lot of the league likely wouldn’t want to take a chance on Kevin Love regaining his old form, Love’s former team might be a bit more willing to take a shot on him. The Cavaliers would greatly benefit from adding some solid depth in point guard Ricky Rubio, power forward Juan Hernangomez, and small forward Jake Layman.

The Cavaliers are a promising team who could have the playoffs set in their focal point moving forward. Making a trade like this to not only dump the expiring contract of Kevin Love but to land a trio of talented players could help the Cavs make a playoff push as soon as next season.

After moving on from Andre Drummond prior to the NBA trade deadline, the Cavaliers signaled they could look to move on from their older veteran talents. Jarrett Allen is the long-term answer at the center position while Larry Nance Jr. is best suited to be a key element in that regard at the four spot. Moving on from Kevin Love would help to fully embrace that.

The contributions that Kevin Love has provided the Cavaliers organization will be appreciated by the franchise and the fans forever. Being part of any championship winning team is special, but it’s all the more meaningful when it’s the first one. However, now is the time to look towards the future.
