3. Will Play Significant Role

It was said right after the deal was done that LaMarcus Aldridge will play a significant role for the Brooklyn Nets. He was bought out by the San Antonio Spurs and agreed to a one-year deal where he will earn the veteran’s minimum.

This was an area that the Nets wanted to improve at the NBA trade deadline and they took an option away from another Eastern Conference team. The Miami Heat were a significant suitor for Aldridge and now being able to add his shooting and post scoring is a real negative for them.

The Nets sent Jarrett Allen to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the three-team deal that landed them Harden. Ever since the deal was made, the Nets have been interested in adding more depth at the center position. DeAndre Jordan stepped into the starting role with Nicolas Claxton behind him.

Aldridge is expected to compete for a starting spot once he is more conditioned and gets a bit more acquainted with the team. It is hard to imagine Aldridge not starting at center for the Nets down the stretch of the season and in the playoffs.

Not only will Aldridge join a team ready to win a championship, but he will play significant minutes and have a chance to earn a starting spot. When looking at the situation as a whole, the decision seems like a no-brainer for Aldridge.
