Move Jayson Tatum back to SF and find a true, reliable frontcourt option

As a result of their lack of frontcourt depth, Jayson Tatum has moved to the power-forward position in rotations for the Celtics, which he has thrived in, but he is much better as a small-forward on the wing. The two things that have crippled the Celtics over the years is the ineffectiveness of their bench and the fact that their frontcourt has been a mess since Kevin Garnett left.

By targeting a key frontcourt player in free agency this offseason and moving Tatum back to the small-forward position and Jaylen Brown to shooting guard not only opens up the court a lot more for the Celtics matchup wise, but it allows them to move the ball better, especially if they have another reliable player in the frontcourt.

Lauri Markkanen, Carmelo Anthony, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum are all set to be free agents this offseason and all could definitely have a positive impact on the Celtics. Every one of these players except Markkanen can be signed pretty cheap and would definitely aid the Celtics in terms of offensive production.

Hypothetically, if Boston was to add a guy like Aldridge to their rotation, then they would have a starting rotation of Walker, Brown, Tatum, Aldridge and Thompson, which is better than this year’s rotation, and they would have Marcus Smart, Payton Pritchard, Robert Williams and whoever else they sign on the bench.

That is a much better situation than what they currently have and by moving Tatum back to the small-forward position, the Celtics would be able to have Marcus Smart come off-the-bench, opening up their rotations by a lot.
