This Celtics-Mavs offseason trade features Kemba Walker

Now in his second season with the Boston Celtics, Kemba Walker has found his stride after returning from emoji, but it may not be enough for the Celtics to reach their goal of capturing another NBA championship. With Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker, the Celtics definitely have the talent to be a championship contending team, but with no bench and things not clicking this season, they may look to make a big move in the offseason. Could the Dallas Mavericks pursue a move for Walker?

Boston is currently holding onto their playoff life by their fingertips right now and they do not look like the dominant team they have been over the years. They did acquire Evan Fournier at the trade deadline, along with Luke Kornet and Mo Wagner for some frontcourt depth, but with the 76ers, Nets and Bucks being dominant in the East this season, Boston’s championship hopes may be very slim.

For years now, we have seen the Boston Celtics bring in big name All-Stars in Gordon Hayward, Al Horford, Kyrie Irving and now Kemba Walker, but they have not been able to get past the Eastern Conference Finals and back to the NBA Finals for a chance to capture a record 18th championship.

If Boston comes up short of their ultimate goal once again, like it seems like it is trending towards, then it should not be a surprise if they look to move Kemba Walker in the offseason. After this year, he will still have three years left on his contracts and be owed $73.6M through the 2022-23 season, should he opt into his $37.7M player option for that season, which is one of the main reasons why the Celtics could look to cut ties with the All-Star point guard. This will be a key storyline to follow in NBA trade rumors.

He has had some injury concerns with his knees over the years and with them still not being able to be a championship worthy team with Walker as their point guard, the Celtics would be smart to take a step back and evaluate the ways in which they could potentially win with Tatum and Brown at the forefront of things.

If Walker becomes available this offseason, then the Dallas Mavericks are a team that could definitely be in contact with the Boston Celtics about a possible trade. Dallas has been looking for ways to get Doncic and Porzingis more help to build themselves into a true championship contender out west and this could be the move they need to make to solidify that.

With that said, let’s examine a potential offseason trade that would send Kemba Walker to the Dallas Mavericks, forming an All-Star trio of Luka, Kemba and Kristaps for the Mavs.
