4 NBA Draft prospects to watch during the Elite 8

Moses Moody – 6’6”, 205 lbs – SG – Freshman – Arkansas

Arkansas had one of their best seasons in program history this year and are back in the Elite 8 for the first time since 1995 in large part because of how good Moses Moody has been for them all year long.

The 6’6” freshman has been one of the nation’s best scorers all season long averaging 17.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and shooting 36.7% from three-point range over the course of the season. Moses Moody has also scored in double-figures in 27 of the 31 games he has played in this year, including 8 games scoring over 20 points.

Not only does he have the size to be a perfect match for the “modern day” shooting guard in the NBA, but Moses Moody uses his size and strength to score over smaller defenders either from the perimeter or on the drive. At the next level, Moody will definitely need to get strong in order to get the shots that he wants, especially on the drive, but this can be said about many prospects coming out of college and is not a major concern.

He is an elite level perimeter player and his game will easily translate to the next level as a result. Moses Moody definitely has one of the more pure shooting strokes in college basketball and has an excellent release and arc on his shot. Mechanics wise, Moody will be able to join a team in the NBA and immediately be able to contribute because of his ability to shoot from the perimeter.

Overall, Moses Moody is the ideal “catch-and-shoot” shooting guard in today’s NBA. Whether it is running to a spot in transition or stepping out on the perimeter in a half-court set, the young guard always seems to find an open spot on the court and his high release makes it hard for opponents to contest his shot.

Defensively, there are no big concerns about Moses Moody, as he is able to use his length and quick feet to step into passing lanes and disrupt opponents on the drive. As stated before, Moses Moody will probably need to bulk up a little when he gets to the NBA, but this is said about every single draft prospect year-in and year-out and is not that major of a concern for him.

He really does not have any weaknesses to his game other than the fact that he is not a reliable facilitator or primary ball-handler. Moody is more than capable of beating his opponents off-the-dribble and getting to the paint, but at the next level, the 18-year-old guard will primarily spend his time playing off-the-ball, getting open for catch-and-shoot jumpers.

Moses Moody has a really bright future in the NBA and in today’s age where the three-point shot is so dominant, he is going to fit right in and be a big difference-maker for any team in this league. Expect to see Moody get drafted somewhere in the draft lottery (picks 1-14) and be a rookie that has his number called a lot next year.
