Celtics ‘gained major ground’ in Andre Drummond sweepstakes

The Boston Celtics missed out on Nikola Vucevic at the NBA trade deadline but could look to add an intriguing big man in the buyout market. Andre Drummond still needs to find a team and the Celtics could capitalize.

According to NBA Analysis Network’s own Evan Massey, the Celtics have put a ‘full-court press’ in their efforts to sign Andre Drummond. While Drummond is leaning towards the. Lakers, Boston has made up a lot of ground in the last 24 hours.

The Celtics used free agency last NBA offseason to sign Tristan Thompson but he has been a disappointment. Mostly, Thompson has been limited by injuries and hasn’t made a strong impact during the times he’s actually been available to play.

There are some real questions that need to be asked about Andre Drummond before declaring him as a great addition for a team. He has been a largely inefficient offensive player and hasn’t dedicated himself to doing the little things successful teams need defensively.

Will Andre Drummond be able to buy-in with the Celtics and play within the flow of their half-court offense? He has the physical tools to be a real roll threat and be a relief option near the basket as opposed to calling for the ball in the post and turning it over trying to do too much, in general.

Signing with a playoff contender like the Celtics, Knicks, or Lakers would enable Andre Drummond to turn his reputation around as a player. He needs to show there’s substance behind the big box score numbers that he’s putting up for his team. Regardless, he will be a pivotal name to watch in NBA rumors until he signs.
