The Los Angeles Clippers have been scouring the trade market looking for an upgrade at the point guard position. Rajon Rondo was a player they were interested in during free agency, but he ended up signing with the Atlanta Hawks. Now, the two teams are discussing a trade with the deadline just a few hours away.

According to a report from Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Clippers and Hawks have been having conversations about a potential trade for Rondo.

Rondo would be exactly the kind of point guard that the Clippers need. He would be able to come in and create for his teammates. Los Angeles would not need him to score, but he could also play a high level of defense.

Both of these teams have been very active in trade discussions. It would not be shocking to see them come to an agreement, although the Hawks aren’t going to move Rondo just to make a trade.

So far this season in his first year with the Hawks, Rajon Rondo has averaged just 3.9 points per game to go along with 3.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds. He has failed to find a consistent role with Atlanta and has only averaged 14.9 minutes per game.

If the Hawks are able to get something of value for Rondo, they need to pull the trigger. Even if it’s just a couple of second-round picks. Rondo does not fit into their long-term plans at all.

For the Clippers, being able to bring in a quality point guard would be big. A guy who can create and defend at the level that Rondo can would be exactly what they have been needing to find.

Expect to continue hearing more rumors surrounding the Hawks and Clippers. The trade deadline is coming up quickly and Rajon Rondo could be a name to keep a close eye on.
