Why This Trade Would Benefit The Orlando Magic
Aaron Gordon has two years left on his contract, including this one. He is owed upwards of $34 million over the rest of the deal. The Orlando Magic could use his value to this point and look for a return for a player that might not be apart of the long-term plan.
Orlando has been a postseason team in each of the last two years. They were hoping to take the next step this season after a strong start but that has not been the case. Markelle Fultz suffered a torn ACL that halted any progress he has been making in the league.
Nikola Vucevic continues to look like the real deal, which makes Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier easy trade targets. Fournier is in the final year of his deal and can also be moved. For the Magic, this is more about rebuilding and sending Gordon away than the return they are getting. Barton is a starting-caliber guard that could contribute right away.

The Magic have a chance to acquire some more assets for the future. This is what rebuilding teams must do and the front office certainly has some moves to make.
