Boston Celtics Receive: F Thaddeus Young, CHI 2023 1st Round Pick 

Chicago Bulls Receive: G Marcus Smart 

The only thing of value that the Bulls could get in return from the Celtics in a Thaddeus Young trade would be Marcus Smart. Outside of him, the Celtics do not have anybody else they could trade to Chicago that would be of value to them, which is why Boston’s pursuit of the veteran forward could fall through. 

Thaddeus Young is now 32-years old and in his 14th season in the NBA, but has always been known as a legit low-post threat and aggressive rebounder. While Marcus Smart is a key player to the Cetlics’ success, Thad Young is exactly the type of player the Celtics could use off their bench, especially since they need more reliable play from their frontcourt.

This team needs some help in the frontcourt and you know what you are getting with a guy like Thaddeus Young, which is why the Celtics have been a team that has shown interest in the veteran forward. He can score in double-figures any day of the week and can give Boston the big-bodied big man in the low-post they need on both ends of the court.

Giving up Marcus Smart would be hard for the Celtics to do, especially since he is a fantastic two-way player for them and one of the best one-on-one defenders in the league. While he has been a terrific role player for them, it may be worth it for the Celtics in the grand scheme of things to trade him to upgrade their depth at another position.

Again, the Celtics will likely not be making any trades at the trade deadline that involves them giving up Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown or Marcus Smart, but Thaddeus Young is a high-impact role player that could greatly improve the Celtics’ second-unit. With that said, let’s take a look as to if this trade makes sense for the Celtics and/or Bulls.
