Entering Wednesday, the New Orleans Pelicans (17-23) are four games back of the final playoff spot in the West. JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball have been mentioned on trade rumors. Redick is more likely to be dealt at this point, despite being out right now.. But another piece of the Pelicans’ backcourt could be on the move. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, guard Eric Bledsoe is still “very available” ahead of the trade deadline.

Bledsoe is averaging 11.8 points, 3.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game this season. That scoring average is his lowest since his third season in the league, on his lowest shot volume (10 per game) since that same season. A solid 37.8 percent mark from beyond the arc is a positive, but he’s also shooting less than 69 percent from the line.

Over the last seven games, Bledsoe is not helping his potential trade value. He’s averaging just 7.4 points per game over that span, on 32.1 percent shooting (25 percent from 3-point range).

Any team who might be interested in Bledsoe is surely aware of his contract. He’s making nearly $16.9 million this year, then $18.1 million next year. Then he’s due a non-guaranteed $19.4 million in 2022-23. He can play both guard spots, but that’s only so valuable.

Bledsoe’s Basketball Reference shot data shows a shift outward this year, particularly to beyond the arc (48.3 percent of his shots). With that has come a drop-off in proficiency within 10 feet of the basket. Who he seems to be now, a declining finisher who still isn’t a consistently good 3-point shooter, isn’t someone other teams are lining up to trade for. Or they shouldn’t be, at least.

The Pelicans have made sure it’s out there Bledsoe is available. Clearing out playing time for Nickeil Alexander-Walker is a likely motivation. But it’s hard to see much of a market for the veteran guard. Maybe New Orleans can find a team with a bad/expiring contract they’d like to unload.
