The Dallas Mavericks are once again a contender in the Western Conference this season. Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis have them in position to compete with teams like the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers. However, they could still look to make a move ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
More depth would absolutely be smart for the Mavericks to target. They could use another player who can fill the basket up. One potential player could fit that need.
That would be Orlando Magic wing Terrence Ross, who could come in, shoot the three, and score the ball at a high level.
So far this season with the Magic, Ross has averaged 15.5 points per game to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He has shot 41 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 34.4 percent of his three-point attempts.
Over the past couple of weeks, the Magic have been mentioned in a ton of trade rumors. They are open to dealing both Ross and Evan Fournier. Rumors have suggested that they could trade Nikola Vucevic, although those rumors seem much less likely to come to fruition.
At 30 years of age, Ross still has two years left on his contract following this season. He will be paid $12.5 million next year and $11.5 million the year after. That kind of contract is very team-friendly and would make him an even more logical trade target for the Mavericks.
Another reason a trade for Terrence Ross could make sense is the fact that he shouldn’t be too expensive. The Magic won’t be able to ask for a high price for Ross. He’s a good role player, but nothing more than that.
Dallas could look to make a bigger move. They could try to bring in a third star to play alongside Doncic and Porzingis. Instead, however, they should try to add more talented depth around their two stars to compete in a seven-game playoff series.
Expect to hear more rumors surrounding the Mavericks in the coming days. The trade deadline is quickly approaching and Ross would be a very good fit for Dallas should they choose to go that direction.
