Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Detroit Pistons:

Trading Jerami Grant makes little sense for the Detroit Pistons, especially since they just signed him in the offseason, but they do get a ton of value in this trade that they probably cannot find anywhere else. In this trade scenario, the Pistons would be receiving talent that can help them now and in the future, which is hard to come by.

Again, the Pistons will likely not be trading Grant at the NBA trade deadline, but in this trade, getting Smart, Pritchard and Nesmith could set them up for a lot of success moving forward. Marcus Smart is an emotional leader and a defensive anchor and both rookies possess a lot of potential to grow into very solid rotational players.

Not to mention, the Pistons also receive two first-round picks and Oklahoma City’s second-round pick that is projected to be one of the first picks of the second-round. Basically, this OKC second-round pick has a lot of value because it can be viewed as a potential late first-round pick.

Young players and draft compensation is what the Detroit Pistons need and this trade gives them just that. Marcus Smart is a very experienced player in this league, but he is about to be 27-years old and has plenty of basketball yet to be played in his career.

If the Pistons are looking to gain as many future assets as possible now, then trading Jerami Grant could make a lot of sense for them, but expect to see Grant in Detroit for a long time as he is the future and the face of their franchise.
