The San Antonio Spurs have been a very competitive basketball team so far this season in the Western Conference. However, a lot of things are about to change following the report that LaMarcus Aldridge is parting ways with the franchise. More than that will likely happen, but the Spurs could be looking to bring talent in as well as ship it out and possibly could even target Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report mentioned the Spurs as a potential landing spot for Gordon and it absolutely makes sense.

If he does, the Spurs should have an aggressive offer at the ready. The explosive swingman could be the right developmental system away from making good on the promise that once made him the fourth pick of the 2014 draft.

Gordon to San Antonio makes so much sense for both parties involved. The Spurs could use a highly athletic forward who can help bring their offense back to life. On the other hand, Gordon needs a place where he can play his offensive game and be free.

At 25 years old, Gordon has never taken the big leaps forward that many thought he would. Instead, he has shown progress and then shown regression. His role has never grown with the Magic either, but it could with the Spurs.

Gregg Popovich is the type of coach that could take Aaron Gordon much farther. He has always developed players well. If someone takes time with Gordon and helps him become the player he is more than capable of being, they will get a star.

So far this season with the Magic, Gordon has played in 19 games. He has averaged 13.8 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists. In addition to those averages, Gordon has shot 42.7 percent from the floor and has knocked down 36.9 percent of his three-point attempts.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Gordon at the trade deadline. Other teams are going to be interested in trading for him, including the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gordon is a hot commodity because many teams know just how good he is capable of being.

Expect to continue hearing rumors about him in the coming days and weeks. If the Spurs are smart, they will be involved in trade discussions for him.
