Why This Trade Would Benefit The San Antonio Spurs
In the offseason, DeRozan was allegedly unhappy with the situation surrounding the franchise. He is still having a good first half averaging 20 points per game while leading the Spurs to an 18-14 record. Despite the good first half, San Antonio knows that they need to find a trade partner for DeRozan this season.
DeRozan opted into his contract this season that will pay him $27.7 million. This decision was a no-brainer and as we approach the deadline, a trade could be on the horizon. The Spurs missed the postseason a year ago for the first time in 22 years.
Gregg Popovich has the team back to playing well this season, which was to be expected. Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson are looking like the centerpiece players of the Spurs for the future. This means they could add some more assets and draft capital in hopes of retooling the roster.

DeRozan is still valuable so this means they could take advantage. Contending teams will be interested in him and this is a chance for San Antonio to make another big move.
