The Cleveland Cavaliers and Andre Drummond each have decided it is mutually beneficial to sever ties. As the NBA trade deadline approaches, it’s a matter of how Drummond will be moved, whether it’s using a trade or by coming to an agreement on a buyout.

According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, the Los Angeles Lakers have interest in DeMarcus Cousins but they prefer to sign Andre Drummond if he gets bought out by the Cavaliers. The Brooklyn Nets and Lakers are considered the favorites to sign Drummond.

“League sources say they have interest in free agent DeMarcus Cousins, but Drummond is their preference if he gets bought out. Drummond has been benched while the Cavaliers seek a trade, but there’s doubt around the league that they’ll be able to find one due to his massive $28.8 million salary.

“If Drummond does end up hitting the buyout market, consider the Lakers and Nets as the two favorites to add him.”

It will be fascinating to see how the situation plays out with Drummond and the Cavaliers. With it being widely known that Jarrett Allen is strongly favored as their center answer for the future and Drummond’s large contract, the trade value may not be appealing for Cleveland.

The Nets recently signed Blake Griffin to fill a small ball center role off the bench, so it remains to be seen how interested they would be in signing Andre Drummond. The Lakers do still have Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol, so tough decisions would be needed on their end, too.

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, Andre Drummond will continue to be a name to watch in NBA rumors. He’s still very much in his prime and could be quite a mid-season pickup for a team looking to pull off a championship run.
