Luka Doncic is currently having himself another exceptional NBA season for the Dallas Mavericks. But despite the historic numbers for a player of his age, he’s not accepting legendary status just yet.
Doncic has long been compared to Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird since entering the NBA in 2018. While it’s difficult to tell them apart when watching their similar play styles and competitive nature, Luka is staying humble, as usual.
Luka Doncic is currently in just his third NBA season – averaging 28.5 points, 9 assists and 8.4 rebounds per game. He has two All-Star selections, and will continue to be a yearly MVP candidate as he moves forward in his career.
The only caveat is Bird won three championships and two Finals MVPs during one of the grimiest eras of basketball. Whether Luka is capable of getting the Mavs to that same level or not remains to be seen. He already is a postseason performer, becoming the first player in league history to average 30+ PPG, 8+ RPG, 8+ APG in his first playoff run.

Records are an essential part of how any player’s legacy will be defined, but now more than ever, the real contrast is who wins NBA titles. So far, the Mavs don’t exactly reek of excellence with only one winning season in three years.
Nevertheless, the transcendent talent that is Luka Doncic, will undoubtedly be on pace to join Bird as one of the greatest players of all time until he proves otherwise.
