Lakers among suitors showing interest in Andre Drummond

The Los Angeles Lakers are actively looking for ways to improve their roster as they look to repeat as NBA champions. One of their major needs is improving the front-court. Andre Drummond would be a dream target and they do have interest in him.

According to a report from NBA reporter Sam Amico, the Lakers are very interested in pursuing Drummond should he hit the buyout market.

“Along with the Knicks, Drummond continues to be linked to the Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers,” Amico wrote. “The Lakers and Dallas Mavericks are said to only be interested in the event Drummond hits the buyout market.”

Drummond would be a huge get for the Lakers, but there is one major issue. At this point in time, it doesn’t appear that the Cleveland Cavaliers are planning to buy him out. They are determined to trade him and get value in return.

So far this season with the Cavaliers, Drummond has played in 25 games. He hasn’t played since February 12th as the team looks to trade him. In his appearances this year, Drummond has averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

Those numbers show why the Lakers would have interest in Drummond. He can defend the rim, rebound at an elite level, and is a more than capable scorer. That kind of player would fit perfectly alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Obviously, there are quite a few teams interested in Andre Drummond. The Lakers may not have a chance to sign him on the buyout market. But, this is something to keep a close eye on if the Cavaliers are unable to trade him by the deadline.

Rob Pelinka and company are always looking to make moves and the Lakers are going to be active. Whether they way to see who hits the buyout market or try to make a trade to improve the roster, something seems likely to happen.

Expect to hear more news and rumors about Drummond and the Lakers in the coming days and weeks. He would be an ideal fit in Los Angeles, but quite a few things need to happen.
