NBA scout names Wayne Ellington as trade target for Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are a team that many expect to win the NBA Finals this season. After winning the title last year, LeBron James and Anthony Davis are once again arguably the best duo in the game. However, the Lakers could look to add more depth ahead of the NBA trade deadline and Wayne Ellington could be a fit.

One NBA scout, who asked to remain anonymous, mentioned Ellington and thinks the Lakers will at least check in with interest in acquiring him from the Detroit Pistons.

“I’ve heard Wayne Ellington’s name brought up a lot around NBA circles in connection with the Lakers. They could use more three-point shooting and Ellington is very efficient from beyond the arc. Ellington isn’t going to cost a lot either, which fits what Rob Pelinka and company are looking for.”

So far this season with the Pistons, Ellington has played in 23 games and started in 20 of those appearances. He has averaged 10.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Ellington has shot 44.5 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 42.1 percent of his three-point attempts.

Ellington has the ability to catch and shoot at an elite level. That would fit well alongside James, who is one of the best, if not the best, in the NBA at driving and creating open looks for teammates.

As for what the Pistons would want in return for the sharpshooter? No one really knows at this point in time, but it wouldn’t be a price too expensive for the Lakers to pay.

If the Lakers do look to make a move at the trade deadline, a player like Wayne Ellington would be ideal. They don’t need to make any big moves. All they need is more depth and three-point shooting.

Expect to hear quite a few rumors surrounding the Lakers as the trade deadline draws closer. Ellington may not end up being a primary target, but he would certainly make a ton of sense.
