Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Houston Rockets
With John Wall, Victor Oladipo, Eric Gordon and a healthy Christian Wood, the Houston Rockets have the potential to be a playoff team this year, but with how packed the Western Conference is with talented teams, they could very well come up short of making the playoffs this year.
This organization needs to be thinking long-term right now, especially with Oladipo being in the final year of his contract and the uncertainty of John Wall moving forward. With those two things in mind, this is why trading for Donte DiVincenzo makes a lot of sense.
The third year guard has been getting better each and every year he has been in the league and this season, he has improved as a “3-and-D” threat. Shooting just about 39% from three-point range is well-above the league average and he currently ranks 4th on the Bucks in steals per game.
Defense is an area the Rockets desperately need to improve in and while PJ Tucker is a really strong defender, this team needs more perimeter defenders. Adding DiVincenzo, who is more than capable of guarding players on or off-the-ball makes a lot of sense for the Rockets, especially since he is just 24-years old.

DinVincenzo can be an impact player for the Rockets for many years to come and getting a 2022 2nd round pick is not too bad either. While it is expected that this pick would be one of the last ones in the draft, the Rockets could still easily leverage this pick in a trade package for another key young talent or even to move up in a future draft.
Either way, getting value for PJ Tucker now while his value is still high is the move the Rockets have to be willing to make, which is why this trade with the Bucks makes a lot of sense in terms of where this organization wants to go.
