Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Los Angeles Clippers

Over the course of his career, Andre Drummond has averaged 13.8 rebounds/game and since 2015, has led the NBA in rebounds per game in four different seasons. Drummond is a low-post and more traditional big man who does not have an outside game, but he can still contribute to any team he is on and make a difference defensively.

This season, Drummond is averaging 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and is shooting 47.4% from the floor. He is a dominant big man who is good for a double-double every single night, which is exactly what the Clippers need next to Kawhi and George.

The Clippers are a really solid defensive team and have been a very reliable scoring team, but the one area of their game that really needs to improve for them to be a true championship contender is rebounding. Los Angeles currently sits 18th in the league in total rebounds per game, but could easily move into the Top-10 with the addition of Drummond.

Montrezl Harrell gave the Clippers a lot of help rebounding last year and was a key scoring option for them in the frontcourt. Serge Ibaka has not been bad this year, but he is not the scorer or rebounder he once was. He can still contribute key minutes and points, but getting Andre Drummond solidifies the Clippers’ frontcourt and gives them a terrific trio to work with.

The only bad thing about this trade for L.A. is the fact that they are already limited on draft picks and would be left with virtually nothing after this trade. Sometimes, this is the cost of going “all-in” for a championship and with the window slightly open in the Western Conference, the Clippers need to make this move and make a strong push for the NBA Finals this year.
