Why This Trade Would Benefit The Golden State Warriors
It was a huge blow to the championship aspirations of the Golden State Warriors when Klay Thompson went down with another serious injury. Having Steph Curry back on the floor has paid off immediately and that was to be expected.
As they continue to climb up the standings in the Western Conference, the Warriors could look to add another piece for the near future. Khris Middleton would not be a short-term commitment for Golden State. He has three years left on his deal after the season.
Khris Middleton will count heavy against the cap in each of those years. That’s partly something the Bucks would benefit from as freeing up long-term cap space can help to add pieces around Giannis Antetokounmpo. This is a situation where the Warriors would need to get creative.
Middleton is averaging 20.7 points per game. He is shooting 44.4% from the three-point line on 5.6 attempts per contest. The Warriors are a team that likes to shoot the ball from deep and that has been obvious for years. The deal would not come cheap but the fit could be a good one for both parties.
This deal would continue to impact the Warriors even when Klay Thompson returned. It would completely solidify their backcourt for the foreseeable future and make the most of the Steph Curry era.
