This Hawks-Mavericks trade features Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta

Kristaps Porzingis is a name that has surfaced in recent weeks. He knows a thing or two about being involved in blockbuster deals. He was originally sent to Dallas from New York in a deal that landed the Knicks with some assets. As we approach the NBA trade deadline this season, Porzingis could be on the move once again.

The play of Kristaps Porzingis has not been the issue. He is averaging 20.5 points per game this season while shooting 35.2% from three-point range. The problem is, he has played in just 17 games this season. Porzingis has struggled with injuries over the course of his career and that includes his time in Dallas.

With a record of 13-15, the Mavericks could begin to lose patience with the injury-prone ways of their second star, especially when he is getting paid an average of $32 million in each of the next four years. The Mavericks have a chance to dump Kristaps Porzingis at the NBA trade deadline and the Atlanta Hawks could be buyers.

It was a busy offseason for the Hawks. They made some big free agent moves in hopes of making a run towards the postseason. These moves included Danilo Gallinari, Rajon Rondo, Kris Dunn, and Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Similar to Dallas, the Hawks are a team that have been struggling with injuries this season. This has led to an 11-16 start to the season. Trae Young is the franchise player in Atlanta and the front office knows this. They made attempts in the offseason and the aggressive nature could continue at the NBA trade deadline.

Kristaps Porzingis could join another star player with ties to the 2018 NBA Draft. Here is what it might take to land Porzingis in Atlanta to team up with Young.
