Why This Trade Would Benefit The Golden State Warriors

DeMar DeRozan is not an elite shooter from deep nor does he attempt many but has shown improvement. He is averaging just 1.9 attempts from three-point range per game this season. Even without the three-point ball, DeRozan has been able to be productive. He is shooting 49.1% from the field and 89.3% from the free throw line this season.

Most importantly, DeRozan is a consistent, proven player on the perimeter who can get a bucket off a ball screen and in isolation at a high rate. This is what a team like the Warriors needs next to Steph Curry this season.

Golden State has been a surprise to this point but will need to make a move if they want to take the next step. DeMar DeRozan is playing on his player option this season. He will be a free agent after the season.

The Warriors will have the option to use DeMar DeRozan as a one-year bridge until Klay Thompson is healthy or extend him for the upcoming years. Either way, the Warriors are in a good position in a deal like this one.

The Warriors have an inside presence with James Wiseman alongside Draymond Green. Steph Curry has been his usual self, even with defenses throwing two or three defenders at him at any given time. This is a chance to take some of that pressure off.
