Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
There were talks of a trade during the offseason because of Karl-Anthony Towns’ with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Nothing has happened yet and it is partially because Towns has been unable to get on the floor this season, appearing in just six games. If he is truly disgruntled, it would make sense for Minnesota to send him away for a massive haul.
Karl-Anthony Towns signed a five-year, $158.3 million contract with the Timberwolves. He was viewed as the franchise player and was supposed to help take them back to the postseason. This is a place they have only been just one side drafting Towns in 2015.
There comes a time where a franchise must decide to blow it up and this could be that time. In this deal, they would be replenishing rather quickly. Lauri Markkanen would be an immediate replacement for Karl-Anthony Towns. He is averaging 19.1 points per game this season. Wendell Carter Jr. is a young player who still could blossom into a productive player.
The Timberwolves would also receive three first-round picks in the deal. This goes a long way for a rebuilding team looking to add prospects during the process. This trade is a home run for the Timberwolves if they can get it done. It makes sense to use Towns’ value right away.
